Tango Gift Guide 2021

Tango Gift Guide 2021

To write this Tango Gift Guide, I took a very subjective approach and chose things I really like. As a matter of fact, after I put the list together, I have realized that I do have more than half of the items. In other words, most of the items have been tried and tested by me. 😉

I have divided the items into three categories:
Beauty – I selected some of my favorite tango fashion brands, as well as home decor pieces.
Improvement – Dancers who are ambitious and always curious will appreciate these gifts.
Relax – This is my favorite category. After-dancing relaxing objects.

Generally, you can use my Tango Gift Guide not only before Christmas but always when an occasion is approaching, and you ask the evergreen question: “What would [name of the person] like?”
I know the struggle of answering this question. That’s why I recommend following the Tango Gift Guide for other events as well.

1. Beauty

1. Tango shoes
My choice is Madame Pivot. Italian brand of high-quality tango shoes. Beautiful, comfortable, and with various size and foot shape options, which is why I find them perfect for my narrow feet.
Tip: When it comes to shoes, I think it is better to give a gift voucher than a pair of shoes.

2. T-shirt with Tango theme
MilonGear offers effortlessly chic and cool t-shirts. I saw them on people first, and I loved them. Now I know where to buy it. You don’t have to search!

3. Tango skirt or dress
Modecreator is a treasure of Munich’s tango fashion. Her clothes are unique, and every single model is well thought out, often with a twist.
Plus, they’re made for the measure.

4. Printed tango photography from your favorite Tango Photographer
Some tango pictures are real masterpieces. I am coming back to Marta’s photos pretty often and admiring the beauty she has caught.
If you want to print, remember to ask the photographer for permission.

5. Tango trousers or vest
Lunfardo menswear. Their clothes are elegant, made from the finest fabrics, and with an elegant cut. You can see that every detail is fine-tuned. I’ve heard they are very comfortable.

6. Piece from Lin Creations
It is Lin’s (Lin Creations) attention to detail that makes her pieces stand out to me. For your request, she will adjust it to your needs, and you will love the piece. They are very comfortable.
Currently, in her Etsy shop, there is up to a 20% discount due to Black Friday.

7. It-Tango-Bag straight from Paris by MilonGear.
This is something I really enjoy saying: “I’m sorry I can’t. I am going to a milonga.”

8. Poster with fileteado porteño*
A tango lover will immediately recognize this lettering style. I found some nice under this link.
*Decorative art from Buenos Aires, characterized by its colorful swirls – filetes – artistic lettering and flowery motifs. It’s not too much saying that it’s the iconography of tango.

9. Shoes for men
Once again in this guide, Madame Pivot shoes, but for men. Or rather Monsieur Pivot. Beautiful styles and great quality. They allow you to choose your shoe sole (which, I think, is worth considering).

10. Tango skirt or dress
Colección Berlin Tango Dancewear – simple and comfortable skirts, tops, and dresses for tango. However, I am convinced that they will be great for a lot more than just milongas. Handmade in Berlin.

coqueta tango dress

[EDIT] 110. Tango skirt or dress from a new Berliner tango fashion brand.
Coqueta by Coco is a brand new brand straight from Berlin. And if you think that you have seen all possible shapes of tango dresses, you are wrong. Coco is pouring all her heart and creativity into the design process. And you can see that! Her work deserves attention, especially because she is a new creator!

2. Improvement

11. Tripod
I received this as a gift last winter, and I love it. It’s a perfect gift for a person who wants to improve in tango. Believe me, setting up the camera on a tripod to record yourself dancing is much easier (and safer) than without one.

12. Private class voucher
Give an experience, not an object. It’s a gift of development, becoming a better person and better dancer. Contact us at dance@tangoflow.org to issue a voucher with our teachers.

13. Tangere – book by Gianpiero Galdi
Precise and detailed instruction for those who want to learn, research, fall in love and deepen the understanding of the body biomechanics in Argentine tango. Here find the link.
For Italian speakers only.

14. Book from Michael Lavocah
I don’t know anyone who’d be speaking of tango music in a more interesting way, than Michael. He is a walking encyclopedia, and his books are laying encyclopedias. Highly recommended. To be bought under this link.

15. Album from Tango Tunes
Professionally digitalized tango records. This sounds like a perfect gift not only for tango DJs.

16. An album of a tango orchestra Bandonegro.
“Sometimes in a sober way, sometimes in a bold way, always demonstrating knowledge and devotion for the igneous scores. Sounding for and delighting all ages youngsters.”*

3. Relax

17. Massage roller
There are a variety of types of rollers, but the one that I recommend most is in the shape of a small ball. They are perfect for massaging the feet, or for precise spots in your back. Thanks to the small size, you can take it with you to the next tango event.

18. Toes separating socks
After several hours of dancing in heels with squeezed toes, a toe separator is the only thing I wish to wear. Although I couldn’t find the separators I have, I believe any separator will do. the job.

19. Acupressure mat
I have been loving my Pranamat. Laying on it helps with muscle tension after dancing or after sitting in front of a computer the whole day. The mat might feel very painful or spiky at the beginning, but after a few minutes, it feels soothing and deeply relaxing.

20. Tango coloring book.
Keep calm and draw tango. Your friend can later share her/his art in the “I’m not dancing tango so I did this instead”Facebook group.

These are all my ideas from this year. If you have an idea for a tango gift and you would like it to appear in the next edition of Tango Gift Guide write us an email.

Feel free to share this post with your tango friends (or their friends). ☺️
